Note that the things that I love about my wife are not necessarily the reasons that I love her. That is because I am Christ's bride before I am Angie's husband. Everything I do is (or should be) for His glory (1 Cor 10:31). If I loved Angie for all of the reasons above, but didn't love her for my Lord's sake, then my love for her would be sin.
Therefore here is a list of the reasons that I love my wife:
  1. Our Lover and Husband Jesus tells me to love my neighbor. Angie is definitely my closest neighbor and God is pleased for me to love her.
  2. Jesus commands me to love my enemies. My wife is not my enemy. However, we will struggle in our marriage, we will have times when we don't get along, she will hurt me, and if I love her during those times then my Master is glorified.
  3. In particular, the Bible teaches husbands to love their wives. Before the foundation of the world, God chose a people who, in Jesus Christ, would be holy and blameless before Him, a people whom He calls His Beloved. After creating the world and making man in His image, God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone... Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." God did this to create a multitude of living dramatization on earth (i.e. marriages) that in shadowy form reflect His relationship to His chosen people. Christ is honored when I love Angie as He loves His church, and bringing honor to Him is what I was made for.
