"She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus [meaning "God saves"], for he will save his people from their sins [i.e. anything that breaks God's Law]" (Matthew 1:21, Holy Bible, emphasis added). Your fundamental problem and my fundamental problem is our sin. Any other problems: poverty, sickness, loneliness, boredom, futility, challenging life circumstances, traumatic childhoods, romantic rejection, family rejection, unemployment, aging, divorce, war, famine, etc., are all simply consequences of the fundamental problem with humanity --- that as a whole we have chosen to live as enemies of our Creator rather than as His children and His friends. The most important message in the world is that Jesus came to save you from your sin, if only you will repent (confess your sin and turn away from it) and trust in His sacrifice in your place: "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Holy Bible, emphasis added). I don't mean to say that all of the problems listed above will disappear from your life if you trust Jesus. Indeed, in order to follow Jesus you must prepared for your life to get much harder. But as one saved from the power and penalty of sin you can endure through the many trials and tribulations of this life with the hope that as a friend and child of God, you will live forever in His glorious presence. If the message of Jesus is new to you, may I suggest reading the book of John in the New Testament portion of the Bible.
